Pesta Ponggal 2006 @ Menara KL

The Ponggal festival is a harvest and thanksgiving festival to celebrate the first harvest. The festival is celebrated during the harvest season, where the first product of the grain is boiled in a clay pot under the sun to pay tribute to the sun for good harvest. This celebration started in India but when the Indians came to Malaysia long time ago, they brought Ponggal here.
 . 
This year, the celebration was held at the base of one of the tallest free standing communications tower in the world ... The Kuala Lumpur Tower.

The main event in this celebration was the cooking of ponggal, a sweet rice concoction. Milk and water is boiled in a clay pot until it bubbles up and the froth spills over the mouth of the pot, and those cooking the ponggal will shout Ponggal!!! Ponggal!!! Ponggal!!! The milk and water spillling over simbolise a good and bountiful harvest. Rice is then added to the boiling milk and later on sugar is added to the pot as well.
 
This time around, I went not only to take some picture and learn more about this harvest festival .... I actually took part in cooking the Ponggal. I managed to talk to one of the organizers, and was given a pot, complete with all the ingerdients to cook the ponggal.

End of 2005 blind shots

Saturday 31Dec2005 - Last day of 2005, I was at the base of the once tallest buildings in the world, the Petronas Twin Towers (I was told, the Petronas towers still holds the record for the tallest "twin" building in the worls), with some friends just to celebrate the ending the 2005 and welcoming 2006. No less than 30 os us wandered around KLCC park with thier cameras to record the activities on the park on the last day of 2005.
I decided to do some "blind shooting" that afternoon ... hung my camera on my neck, with the camera dangling at my tummy level  . I walked around pressing the shutter button whenever i see someone passes by or whatever that fancy my eyes. I did not lift the camera to look into the viewfinder, the camera stays at tummy level as if looking at my tummy-eye-viwe. I did some 13 shots that afternoon, and would likt to share 3 that came out ...Hmmmm ... u be the judge ....

Ampang Hill - Look Out Point

|
I, and a few Fotopages Malaysia friends went up a hill in the outskirts of KL to catch a sunset over the city ..... but the weather was not on our side, it rained. When the sky cleared up, it was already late and the sun was already far below the horizon. I managed to capture a few shots of Kuala Lumput city skyline at night and would like to share this one ..... nothing great, just a shot to remember this evening with some wonderful friends.
A little later the sky cleared up some more and revealed a beautiful bright "half" moon. A quick tilt of the camera on the tripod and got myself my first shot of the moon in 2006
