Happy 9th Birthday Syafie ...

My eldest boy, Syafie, celebrated his ninth birthday last Monday ... November 29th. He's happy when I surprised him with a cake, when I got back from work that day.

... I am the one who feels older every time my kids blow the candles on the birthday cake

Khatam Al-Quran

Before the school closes a couple of weeks ago, the school my son goes to organized a Majlis Khatam Al-Quran. I was invited and got a few shots of the event ... (a little dark, though)

Khatam Al-Quran:

The Khatam al-Quran is a ceremony that marks the completion of reading of the entire Quran, by a boy or girl.

Khatam al-Quran ceremony requires the boy or girl to read verses from final section of the Holy Quran (Surah-surah Lazim) before his parents, his Quran teacher and invited guests.Thenafter, everyone is treated to a feast or "Kenduri". To close the ceremony, the guests are presented with "bunga telor", a boiled egg attached to a stick, decorated with floral designs.

bang, gambo orang bersunat takde kerr? kan skang cuti sekolah
teringat masa zaman dulu2. bersunat beramai2. bapak pikul anak atas bahu. hmmmm

Arowana, Dragon Fish or Kelisa

A few months ago, I had an online chat with a friend and he had just bought a new digicam to take photos of his beautiful Arowana. He asked me how to take pictures of fish in an aquarium. I have never done this kind of shot, so I cannot help him much.

Last Wednesday, I went to a cousin's apartment to try and capture a decent image of the Arowana. He has a big Arowana in a six foot fish tank. It's mesmerising just to watch the fish swim.

Well, I tried to take a few shots of the Arowana. It was not as easy as I initially thought. Lighting is a problem and the Arowana itself is an active fish, it hardly stay still ... I took a few shots and all are either out of focus or blurred. Flash will not work at all because of flash relfection on the aquarium glass surface.

So, instead of taking a "stationary" picture of the fish, I decided to try panning across the aquarium following the fish as it swims. Here's the result ....

not bad...... Thu 2-Dec-2004 01:35

Yet Another Wedding Pictures ...

Here comes the bride ...
... Here comes the groom ...
... Here are the kids ... :-D
View all 12 photos...
Only this morning I stopped over at Hazeelin's fotopage and wrote a small comment on her photos of a Malay wedding ... and later in the evening a friend of mine pestered me to show him some wedding pictures I took. My friend's little brother is getting married in December, and he (my friend) wanted to try covering the wedding as a secondary photog. I ended up scanning some of my 4R prints.

Initially, I don't feel like posting these pictures, but since I had already scanned the prints and this friend of mine said, "Hey, these are quite good"... I thought I might as well post this here and get feedbacks from more people.

These were taken September, last year ... my cousin's wedding. I was just another relative with a camera snapping away some pix for momentos.

So, whaddaya think .........

Selamat Hari Raya Aidul Fitri.Minal A'idin Wal Faizin.Kullu A'min Wa Antum Bikhairin.

Nazley, your friend was right. Those are really good wedding shots, most of them are good in their own rights. They really show the atmosphere and emotions of people at that time. Ada silat lagi! I am sure those involved in the photos are happy to see these photos Sun 28-Nov-2004 17:49

Rendang

"spotted ... 3 chicken at 2 o'clock" ....
2 hours later ... slaughtered, cleaned and smoked ...
Chopped down to bite sized pieces
View all 6 photos...
Chicken or beef Rendang is a compulsory spicy dish to complement the Lemang. This time around I had to chase and catch "free range chicken" (ayam kampong) for the dish .....

Nak tanya sikit ni Nazley.. mengapa ayam yang dah dibersihkan tu, harus diasap ? Tidak memadaii ke dgn merebus sajer ? Does that enhance the flavour of the chicken ? Tue 23-Nov-2004 20:56
